Computerized Tomography Scan (CT)
A CT scanner is one of the most powerful imaging tools available. Results are faster and images of the body are reconstructed into three different planes allowing the physician to see anatomy from three different viewpoints. CT is available 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week at both the Athens and Etowah campuses.
Low-Dose CT Screening
Low-dose CT screenings are used in the detection of lung cancer for patients at high risk by creating a 3-D image of the lungs. The screening is fast, painless and non-invasive.
Fluoroscopy
Fluoroscopy is a study of moving body structures using a continuous X-ray beam that is passed through the part of the body being examined. As an imaging tool, the procedure allows physicians to look at specific parts or systems in the body.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
The Athens campus is proud to offer one of the most technologically advanced MRI systems in the region. It is equipped with the 16-channel HDxt gradient package, making it one of the fastest scanners available. The scanner can show subtle changes in the body caused by cancer and other diseases. Brain imaging with MR is superior to other diagnostic tools and it’s also excellent for orthopedic applications such as shoulders for rotator cuff tear, football or sports injuries, and multiple spine pathologies. No special preparation is necessary for this painless, non-invasive procedure other than removal of all metal jewelry and objects from your body.
3D Mammography (ACR Accredited)
Starr Regional Breast Center, located at 711 Cook Drive, Suite 240, offers 3D mammography, a type of digital mammography which uses advanced technology to take images of your breast from different angles and combine them to create a more complete and accurate image than is possible with regular 2D digital mammography.
Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear medicine procedures involve an injection of radioactive isotopes into the patient’s blood stream while a special camera captures images of the body part being examined. Nuclear medicine is commonly performed on the heart, bones and specific organs such as the gallbladder.
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Scan
A PET scan uses a radioactive drug to reveal how a patient's tissues and organs are functioning. The scan can sometimes detect a disease before it shows on other imaging tests.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a non-radioactive tool used to evaluate abdominal organs, vascular flow, fetal age/size, as well as heart functions.
X-ray
An X-ray is a still image of the inside of your body. X-rays are often used for diagnosing broken bones, but also are used for detection and diagnosis of infections, dental issues, heart conditions, digestive problems and much more.
